fish_chirinquito

There is a wide selection of fish, all of which is fresh and the best is grilled (a la parilla). When you see a chirinqito (beach restaurant), see if they have a fire going outside. If so, pick a fish from the display case and go for it!

Be sure to try sardines (usually "espetos", meaning on a skewer), bream (dorada), turbot (rodaballo) and of course shrimp, crawfish and mussels (lagostinos, gambones, mejillones). Don´t know how to eat fish? Don't worry, the fish will be deboned and filleted in front of you, and you'll get a clean fillet on your plate. This service is common here and you'll find it even on the beach or in a bistro.

More tips

Are you good with fish and do you feel like cooking? Then buy fish. It'll cost you a quarter of the price of a restaurant.
Mercadona ("ordinary supermarket") has a decent selection, and you can also go to the fishmongers in Torre del Mar or Rincón de la Victoria.
If you want to take away an experience as well as shopping, we recommend visiting the Atazaranas market in Malaga. You can get everything there, including scallops and tuna.

Again, you will be surprised by the usual service - the fish will be gutted, cleaned of scales, washed and nicely wrapped. If you ask for it, they'll cut it to your liking - horseshoes, fillets, you name it. If you're not sure how to prepare any seafood, they'll be happy to explain. And they will try to make you understand - English words, hands, feet :-)
